Model X wrapping is technically demanding because of the falcon-wing rear doors. We’ve developed a panel-removal protocol that lets us wrap the falcon-wing seams cleanly without affecting the door sensors.
What wrapping a Model X involves
Teslas reward careful hands. The factory paint is thinner and softer than most marques, which is exactly why owners wrap them — film adds a sacrificial layer over paint that chips easily — and exactly why prep matters: aggressive decontamination or careless tape pulls mark soft clear coat. Panels are wrapped with handles, cameras, and trim removed rather than masked, and film is trimmed clear of every Autopilot camera and sensor window so nothing about the car's driver assistance changes.
Finish choices owners actually make
On the Model X, the finishes we quote most are Satin Black, Satin Pearl White, Matte Charcoal. Satin and matte finishes hide the minor paint texture Tesla is known for; gloss color-shifts read dramatically on the car's simple body lines. Chrome delete pairs naturally with any of them — most Model X wraps include it.
Cost and time
Full color-change work on the Model X typically lands in the $5,800 – $7,800 range with premium 3M or Avery Dennison film, and the car is in the studio about 7–9 days. That includes disassembly, wrap, reassembly, and a post-install inspection — plus care instructions specific to film, which differs from paint (hand wash, no abrasive polish, no pressure washing edges).
